It's been a while since I've been over here. Often I make things and sell them too quickly to take the time to post here on the blog or even on the bebe&boo Facebook page. And, as a result, I also shut down my Etsy shop.
So much has happened in the last several months, including the passing of my Mom, Bebe, whose name and creativity inspired me to sew, design, and make jewelry in the first place. My Mom's death, along with my family's journey to sell our home and possessions in order to travel around the country and world, has placed much of my creativity on the back burner.
BUT, the creativity is back on and I wanted to tell you about something fun bebe&boo has been invited to do. My friend, the huge-hearted Emily Wierenga, author of a blog of the same name, as well as several books, including "Chasing Silhouettes" and her memoir, "Atlas Girl," is also the founder of The Lulu Tree, a non-profit organization reaching women in the slums of Kampala, Uganda. Their mission is "Preventing Tomorrow's Orphans by Equipping Today's Mothers," which is deep at that heart of Bevy, my non-profit which also benefits from the sales of bebe&boo pieces.
bebe&boo will be contributing one-of-a-kind pieces to The Lulu Tree Boutique, a shop with proceeds that will enable the hiring of national Ugandan women to minister to other women and their families right within their communities. The model makes my heart sing as it was the topic of my college research over 20 years ago, but life in my world got busy and I haven't gotten to practice it much.
So, please take a few minutes to check out The Lulu Tree and the heart of the mission. "The Lulu Tree" will be a common name around these parts, so I hope you'll take some time to "meet" the women as the Lulu family grows.
Remember, in true bebe&boo form, the pieces I contribute for sales over at The Lulu Tree Boutique will be one-of-a-kind, so keep an eye out and act quickly as they are known to go fast...and for a good self-sustaining cause, it's a win, win!
